Yorkshire’s Bravado Cartel Sign Up to Paint The World Music

Paint The World Music are delighted to welcome Yorkshire alternative rock icons Bravado Cartel as the latest band to join the label.

The band, who were once described as “A mix of old-school rock like Led Zeppelin and new-school mashups of mould-breakers Kasabian fused with the swagger of The Doors” have signed a six-album deal with the European-wide label, whose flagship studio is West Yorkshire.

“I’m delighted that Bravado Cartel have signed with Paint The World Music” said the label’s founder and Managing Director, Shaun Goulden. “They’re a great set of guys, and their music stands up against anyone on the indie-alt-rock scene. They bring with them all their coolness, their edginess, and their swagger, and I’m looking forward to working with that. I’ve been a long-time admirer of Bravado Cartel, since their early days as RedStar, and it’s an honour to have them on our books.”

The Huddersfield five-piece are made up of lead singer Will Bloy, lead guitarist Jonny Green, Shayne Whitton on drums, Joffa Armstong on bass, and Will Gould on keys. Together, they turn heads and grab attention wherever they go with clean riffs, anthemic ear pleasers, and an undertone of grit and high-octane northern charm.

Formed as RedStar, they released ‘Smile Awhile’ in 2013, in association with Huddersfield Town.  The single reached the top 10 in the iTunes Rock downloads, and that success was followed up with the UK Chart top 40 single ‘Just Like Fighting Shadows’.

Between 2009 and 2013, they released three albums. Law and Order was their debut record, followed by Revelator in 2012. The following year The Vaults was released, and in 2014 the band became Bravado Cartel, deciding on the name change to avoid taking a vaguely communist title on a US tour and potentially receiving a backlash.  As Bravado Cartel, they never looked back, and in 2016 they released their next album Violence Has No Place at the Table of Democracy, and Anything for an Easy Life came out in 2019.

With five albums already in the bag, and countless UK, European and Stateside tours under their belt they’ve been there, done it, and got all the merch.

Bravado Cartel front man Will Bloy said: “We’ve been in the business a long time. We’ve done a lot, and we’ve got the stories to tell. Looking forward though, we’re really pleased to have signed with Paint The World Music, and it’ll be good to get going.  We can’t wait to get into the recording studio, make new music and make some noise. Do the the stuff we do best. As a Yorkshire band who’ve never forgotten about where we came from, it was important to us that our next chapter was going to be based in the heart of God’s own country, and here we are.”

Will added: “We really like the philosophy that Paint The World Music bring to the music industry too. When you’re constantly touring, in the studio for hours on end recording an album and being pulled in all directions to make a label its money, it takes its toll on you, your family, and on your mental health too. The focus on people’s mental health has never been as strong as it is today, but there’s still a massive gap in support for that in the music industry.  This is where Paint The World Music are lightyears ahead of any other label. We know that as well as the music and promotional support, we’ve got personal help there if, and when we need it. All labels should follow suit.”

Recently, Bravado Cartel have released songs such as the moody ‘Stand Up And Be Counted’, the beat and brass infused ‘Ties That Bind’ and the up-tempo, keyboard laden rack track ‘Kill The Messenger’ to much acclaim.

Shaun Goulden said: “It’s guaranteed to be an exciting period for both the band and us as a label going forward. They’re a brilliant recording band, and an unbelievable live act too. They’ve been consistent in creating high-energy, alternative rock music for 18 years now, and I’m excited that they’ll be continuing that with Paint The World Music.”

Under Paint The World Music, Bravado Cartel will be bringing out new music every month and embarking on a UK and US tour. And as well their own shows, you’ll find them supporting some of the major players on the music scene.
